Sensitive and keen I took to dance at an early age. Having my mother-guru Karnataka Kala Thilaka Smt.Radha Sridhar beside me, I imbibed the expert qualities to groom my as a good danseuse. My Rangapravesha in 1978 was heralded by critics as being out of ordinary, especially for a debutante. I Further was put to train in Bharathanatyam maestros of Pandanallur and Kalakshetra like Gurus Muththaiah Pillai, Kittappa Pillai and Gopalakrishna of Pandanallur and Sri M.R.Krishnamurthy of Kalakshetra, Chennai. Much later I enjoyed learning from Sri Dhananjayan and Smt. Shantha Dhananjayan. I was also initiated into Kuchipudi Style of dancing by the renowned Guru Late Sri. Acharyulu. My thirst for learning Kuchipudi in Vempati Chinna Satyam style was quenched by learning under Sri Ramu, and Sri Madhavapeddi Murthy.Side by side I also trained in Carnatic vocal by Smt. E.P. Alamelu and Vidwan Chandra Singh. Having excelled from threshold up to the proficiency level, I stood first in her home state of Karnataka, in the proficiency grade examination.I am perhaps the first artist from Bangalore to perform on the Madras Doordarshan. I am a graded artist of Bangalore Doordarshan. My contribution to several dance dramas and dance numbers choreographed by my mother furthered my horizons in dance. My creative capabilities led her to choreograph many group and solo numbers. I have performed extensively in India, UAE and USA. I was a part of the cultural troupe of Venkatesha Natya Mandir, which completed a successful concert tour of major cities of the U.S. Besides these I has a Bachelors degree in education. I moved residence to Sharjah UAE after marriage I still pursued my dancing I effectively functioned as a teacher cum performer for 15 years in Dubai.I began the the "Rasaanubhava" concerts during March 2001. It involved artists from Bangalore and Dubai. Very much impressed with the success of “Rasanubhava”, I was invited to co-ordinate another such programme”Rasa Sandhya” in May, 2002 With a formal degree in education and experienced in mentoring middle school kids, I developed special skills in handling students. Having moved to Houston, Texas, USA in 2001, I started the Abhinaya School of Performing Arts. I along with two staff members presently train more than 150 students. My repertoire usually consists of traditional, folk and contemporary themes including dance dramas.I have also contributed to the local Indian newspapers by writing reports on music and dance performances in Houston ArchivesArchivesCategories |
