Abhinaya Policies (2024-25)
- Attendance: Students must be regular to the dance classes and be on time. They are required to be present at the dance class 5 minutes before their schedule. Please send an email or call and leave a message if the student cannot make it to the class. You may text/whatsapp the student's teacher. Students arriving late will miss the stretches and warm up adavus which is an important part of dance class.
- Make up lessons (group classes): Make up lessons for missed classes when offered will not be on an individual basis but with some other group. It will be available upon parent request and should be taken on the day it is made available. Extra practice sessions for students training for performances will be considered as a make-up class. The make-up class could be a class at the same level or any other technique class.
- Log maintenance: The students will have to bring a hard bound composition book to the class. They will use it to log their lessons, home work and theory will be given too. Students from Grade 4 onwards need to bring a pen to the class. Parents must find time to check their logs and sign them.
- Dress code: The dress code for dance classes is kurthi top with ankle length leggings preferably in cotton material.They must bring a dupatta or a shawl to tie around their waist. Strictly no tight jeans, patialas, flared pants, jeggings or parallels. No tank tops, frocks or t-shirts. Hair must be tied up in either single pony or braided if long. Bangs must be pinned backwards. If the student is coming directly from school or another class she/he can bring the dress along and change it before the class. Wearing a bindi is encouraged.
- Cell Phones: All cell phones must be put in vibrate mode or switched off during dance class hours. Students will not be allowed to text during dance class. Students found to be playing with cellphones during class will be stopped from bringing phones to class.
- Studio space: Parents must leave their little ones (brothers and sister of the students) at home if you have to wait in dance class. If you must bring them along you will need to take care of them, keep them busy and make sure they do not disrupt the classes.
- Food & Water: Only water bottles are permitted in the dance class. No food, juices and sweetened drinks allowed.Please put student name on water bottles. No food is permitted in the waiting are or the class rooms.
- Observation Class: Parents are requested to drop their kids and come back for them after one hour class or wait in the waiting room. Class observation by parents is restricted to one class per month which is generally last class of the month.
- Music, Dvd and notes: Music for the dance learnt will be shared by email or what's app by teachers. Please download & burn a CD and file all the songs and make it available for the students to practice. All materials music, video and notes are for the use of Abhinaya students only. Most of the music given to students are custom recorded by me in studio and are copyrighted. They must not be copied and distributed under no circumstances.
- Exam: There will be one theory exam and one dance exam from 2nd year onwards. A progress report will be sent to the student. It is mandatory for students to take the exams.
- Annual Recital: All students currently enrolled will perform one well rehearsed dance 5-10 min long during the annual day which will be held during the months of April or May. They will also take part in the grand finale. There will be a separate fee for the Annual Recital. All regular session students need to attend classes August'24 to May'24.
- Social media: Refrain from posting pictures or practice videos or dance class performance videos on You Tube or face book publicly without teacher's permission. Recital videos are given for students to watch their performance. Refrain from posting clips of videos on social media or you tube, or any other video platforms.
- Injuries: Parents, legal guardians of minor students and adult students waive the right to any legal action for any injury sustained on school property resulting from normal dance activity or any other activity conducted by the students before, during or after class time.
- Photo/Video Release: The school is hereby granted permission to take photographs or videos of the students to use in brochures, web sites, posters, advertisements and other promotional materials the school creates. Permission is also hereby granted for the school to copyright such photographs in its name.
- Arangetram: All students aspiring to do their Arangetram must have completed one margam of 8 traditional dances including Varnam in group classes. Preferably they must be in grades 10-12. Teacher will decide if a student is ready for an Arangetram.
- Performances: Participating in performances helps students to practice more and encourages them to improve their skills. Students performing Abhinaya dances in private functions, parties and other festivals must obtain permission to perform dances learnt in class. They must practice their dance well wear a Salwar Kameez or in their dance outfit. Modifying the choreography of dances learnt is not allowed. Students must mention of teacher’s name and school.
